Expedia offers to help CT reclaim its pre-Sandy tourism vibe

The advertising arm of online travel provider Expedia Inc. is offering Connecticut and eight other states and the District of Columbia a discount to build up their tourism marketing following the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy.

Expedia Media Solutions announced Monday it is offering a three-to-one media-dollar match for all of Connecticut's tourism advertising on Expedia Web sites in the next three months, in order to help the state boost recovery of its tourism industry.

The offer is open to state tourism boards and organizations, Expedia said.

It wasn't immediately clear Monday whether Connecticut was aware of the offer and intended to take advantage of it. A call to the state's tourism agency wasn't immediately returned.

The offer extends to all northeastern and Atlantic seaboard states impacted by Sandy including Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Virginia, and Washington D.C.

Expedia extended a similar offer in 2010 to the Gulf of Mexico states following the BP oil spill.
