Tanger signs on to develop Foxwoods mall

North Carolina retail developer Tanger Factory Outlet Centers officially signed on Monday to create an upscale outlet mall at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket.

Tanger and partner Gordon Group will build, manage and own the 312,000 sq. ft center at Foxwoods designed to efficiently connect the property's two main hotels: MGM Grand Hotel & Casino and Grand Pequot Casino Hotel.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The shopping center is expected to generate 400 construction jobs and 900 full-time and part-time permanent jobs.

The outlet mall is Foxwoods latest effort to increase its viability as an entertainment destination. Originally the only casino in the Northeast when it opened in 1992, Foxwoods has suffered through revenue losses for the past decade as more competitors have popped up in the region.
