Danbury lawyer pursuing BP for Fla. city

Danbury law firm Ventura, Ribeiro & Smith has been hired to help a Florida Gulf Coast community pursue financial damages from oil giant British Petroleum for the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster.

The St. Pete Beach City Commission voted Monday to hire Ventura Ribeiro as a co-litigator with Louisiana's The Penton Law Firm, officials said.

Both law firms will pursue on the city's behalf lost tax revenues and tourist-related income stemming from the spill that took months to clean up, Managing Partner Agostinho J. Ribeiro said in a statement.
