Pratt, partners open Riyadh engine-repair site

East Hartford jet-engine builder Pratt & Whitney Co. opened an engine maintenance facility with its Mideast and German partners in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, officials say.

The 194,000-square-foot facility, near King Khalid International Airport, is jointly operated by Pratt and partners Saudi Arabian Airlines, Mohawearean Aviation Services Co. and Germany's MTU Aero Engines. Price tag was not disclosed.

Middle East Propulsion Co. (MEPC) is the joint venture's formal name.

Since launching in 2001, MEPC has done overhaul work for the Royal Saudi Air Force's fleet of F100 fighters and Tornado aircraft, along with engine work for C-130 cargo planes.

Eventually the repair facility will overhaul engines for military helicopters, tanks and other vehicles, officials said.
