CCSU celebrates fuel cell installation

Central Connecticut State University in New Britain celebrated the installation of its new FuelCell power plant on Tuesday.

The on-campus plant from Danbury's FuelCell Energy Inc. will generate clean electricity and produce steam to heat and cool campus buildings. The system will save CCSU $100,000 in annual energy costs.

Senators Joseph I. Lieberman (I-CT), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Congressman John B. Larson (D-CT) praised the installation, and Gov. Dannel Malloy was in attendance along with representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority, Greenwood Energy, and FuelCell Energy, Inc.

"CCSU serves as a model for smart investment in clean energy, demonstrating the clear benefit to our environment and what Connecticut's growing fuel cell industry can offer as a competitor on the global stage," said Blumenthal in a press release.
