UnitedHealth rival drops $21B Tricare challenge

Phoenix's TriWest Healthcare Alliance is ditching its fight to challenge the loss of a $20.5 billion Tricare contract from the U.S. Defense Department, bizjournals.com reports, citing Modernhealthcare.com.

TriWest initially won the bid in July 2009, but in March the Defense Department awarded the huge contract to Minneapolis-based UnitedHealth Group Inc., which has major operations in Hartford.
