New Haven resident Michael T. Ellison has been named associate dean of admissions for the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.

In his new position, Ellison is responsible for ensuring that the medical school admits qualified students who fit the university's mission, can successfully complete all components of the school's curriculum and pass the first two steps of the United States Medical Licensing Examination.

He will oversee a staff of five that is responsible for all facets of the medical school's admissions process and outreach programs designed to interest pre-college-aged students in attending medical school.

The medical school, which is currently under construction on Quinnipiac's North Haven Campus, is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2013. It will focus on training primary care physicians. The first class will have 60 students. The goal is to have 500 students in the medical school in four years.
