KBE to build $14.5M N. London Navy commissary

Farmington's KBE Building Corp. got a $14.5 million contract to erect a new supermarket on the Navy submarine base in New London, authorities say.

Congressman Joe Courtney, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, announced the contract Friday.

According to the Navy's bid specs issued last spring, the commissary will consist of 56,847 square feet.

Typically, base commissaries are open to all active-duty, reserve and retired military personnel.

KBE could not be immediately reached Friday for comment.
