Saint Francis’ radiation oncology unit accredited

St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center's radiation oncology department has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation. The American College of Radiology and The American Society for Radiation Oncology awarded the accreditation to St. Francis' Mount Sinai Cancer Center after a peer-review of the facility was completed by board-certified radiation oncologists and expert medical physicists. Programs that were assessed include patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance. The cancer center is staffed with 14 physicians. The radiation oncology department is equipped with two new linear accelerators, a CT scanning simulator, electron beam therapy, and high-dose-rate brachytherapy.
