New Haven airport receives $1M FAA grant

The Federal Aviation Administration awarded $1 million to Tweed-New Haven Airport to improve the runways and protect the shoreline around Connecticut's second busiest airport.

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) announced the grant along with Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) on Tuesday afternoon.

Tweed is the second busiest airport in Connecticut after Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks. US Airways provides express service out of the New Haven airport, which saw an 11 percent increase in passenger traffic last year.

As part of its upgrades and a new branding campaign, Tweed launched a new airplane tracking feature on its Web site in July.
