Wallingford energy consultant Burns & McDonnell has been awarded a contract by energy giant Iberdrola USA to conduct a six-month facility review of electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure.
The contract includes an update of Iberdrola's existing policies for critical infrastructure protection to comply with the new requirements from North American Electric Reliability Corp., or NERC.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
NERC has implemented a rigid compliance program for utilities and system operators to reduce the possibility of electrical system outages and disruptions.
Burns & McDonnell is also the program manager for Iberdrola's $1.4 million Maine Power Reliability Program transmission project.
"We are excited to continue our working relationship with Iberdrola USA in this important undertaking," said Jerome Farquharson, Burns & McDonnell CIP practice manager, in a press release.
