The aftermarket-sales-and-services division of Stratford's Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. plans to open a helicopter flight- and maintenance-training academy for domestic and foreign air forces in central Oklahoma, in the shadow of the Army's Fort Sill base, authorities say.
Sikorsky announced Friday that Shelton-based Sikorsky Aerospace Services (SAS) signed a tentative deal with Aviation Training Consulting (ATC) to establish the Sikorsky Training Academy in Altus, Okla., where ATC is headquartered.
SAS President David Adler said the academy would address the needs of U.S. government agencies and foreign militaries for standardized training for flight and maintenance crews.
If a deal is formalized, the academy would open in 2013, officials said.
Sikorsky is a division of United Technologies Corp. in Hartford.
