TurboCare closing Manchester factory

Turbine blade manufacturer TurboCare Inc. will close its Manchester facility at the end of the year, laying off 88 workers, according to a notice filed with the Connecticut Department of Labor.

The company makes turbines, compressors, generators, and electric motors, and provides maintenance and training services. The Manchester factory is one of its two Connecticut locations; the other is in East Hartford.

TurboCare also has American operations in North Carolina, Kansas, and Oregon. Its North American headquarters are in Chicopee, Mass.

The company, a subsidiary of German conglomerate Siemens Energy, has 2,500 employees in 16 countries.
