Obama antes $32M to house CT's homeless

The White House has renewed $32 million in funding to shelter Connecticut's homeless, authorities say.

In all, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) said Wednesday it is renewing funding to 158 local housing and service projects in the state as part of HUD's Continuum of Care programs.

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan said that although Connecticut's funding extension wasn't threatened by Washington sequestration across-the-board budget cuts, it could be in the future renewal rounds unless the issue is resolved timely.

"During this challenging budget climate, we must make certain that we don't balance our books on the backs of our most vulnerable citizens,'' Donovan said in a statement. "When we make even modest investments in these programs, we see a measureable decline in homelessness."
