The wholesale prices of natural gas and electricity jumped 32 percent and 37 percent in November, respectively, compared to a year ago, according to grid operator ISO New England.

Price movement is closely linked. ISO said the jump in natural gas prices was the main reason for the electricity price spike.

The average gas price during the recent month was $3.40 per million British thermal units, up from $2.57/MMBtu in November 2016.

Meanwhile, wholesale electricity cost $33.30 per megawatt hour in November, up from $24.30.

Temperatures trended colder in the recent month, at 41 degrees, down from 44 degrees.

Total electricity use was up a half a percentage point in November, ISO said.
