A California company said it has acquired The Life Global Group, a Guilford-based provider of in vitro fertilization products, in a deal valued at $125 million.

Cooper Companies Inc. said the deal, which also includes Life Global affiliates, will bolster its CooperSurgical business, which focuses on women's health, fertility and diagnostics.

"This acquisition fits perfectly into our very successful fertility solutions portfolio," Cooper CEO Robert White said in a statement.

Headquartered in Pleasanton, Calif., the publicly traded global medical device company also owns the contact lens business CooperVision.

Life Global describes itself as a pioneer and leader in "one-step" media for embryo culture, which is the liquid solution used to support embryo growth before implantation. Other products include IVF laboratory air filtration products and dishware.

The company had roughly $24 million in revenue in 2017 and is forecasted to grow in the coming years, Cooper Companies said.
