New Haven, Middlesex towns named among best to start a small biz

Three towns in New Haven and Middlesex counties are among the best in the nation for starting a small business, according to student loan company LendEdu.

Hamden, Oxford, Cromwell and six other Connecticut cities and towns made LendEdu's list of 500 Best Cities to Start a Small Business in the U.S.

The communities were ranked in three categories: population, income and expenses, which included taxes, utility costs and crime rates. Hamden came in at 285, Oxford at 357 and Cromwell at 486.

Dickinson, North Dakota landed in the number one spot, while Storrs/Mansfield topped the list in Connecticut at 89. Also making the list were Stamford (178), Farmington (214), Windsor (247), Westport (477) and New Fairfield (493).

Founded in 2014, LendEdu describes itself as a marketplace for private student loans, student loan refinancing, credit cards and personal loans.
