Berkshire Bank’s 2Q net soars

Boston lender Berkshire Hills Bancorp Inc., with regional Hartford operations, posted higher second-quarter net income that benefited from its expansion into Greater Boston.

For three months ended June 30, the parent of Berkshire Bank said it netted $34 million, or 74 cents a diluted share, a 73 percent increase from net income in the same quarter last year.

Berkshire Hills ended the quarter with assets of $11.9 billion vs. $11.6 billion a year earlier.
