Survey: Hartford hotels cheapest in New England

Hartford hotels offer the lowest rates for travelers in New England, according to a new survey.

The survey by BostonHotels.org, which reviewed hotel rates at 30 popular destinations in New England during August, lists Connecticut's Capital City as the cheapest vacation destination in the region with hotel stays averaging just $109 per night.

The other cheapest hotel rates are in North Conway, N.H. ($117), Groton ($119), Lincoln, N.H. ($124) and Stamford ($126), and the most expensive are in Martha's Vineyard, Mass. ($362), Kennebunkport, Maine ($347), Chatham, Mass. ($324), Portland, Maine ($294) and Provincetown, Mass. ($284).

Hotels in New Haven ranked 19th with rooms averaging $174 a day and Mystic at 21st with rooms costing $168.

The survey accounted for double rooms at hotels located near a city center or shore and rate at least three stars.
