Sprinkle to head health-care management and organizational leadership department at QU

Therese A. Sprinkle, Ph.D., of Milford has been appointed chair of the health-care management and organizational leadership department in the School of Business at Quinnipiac University.

Sprinkle is an assistant professor of management who joined Quinnipiac in 2014. She holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior and a master of arts in business from the University of Cincinnati, a master of science in library science from the University of Kentucky and a bachelor's degree in history from Mount St. Joseph University.

Achillion Pharmaceuticals, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical firm headquartered in New Haven, has named Paul Firuta executive vice president and chief operating officer. Firuta joins Achillion from uniQure N.V., where he was chief commercial officer for the Amsterdam office. Before uniQure, he was president of U.S. commercial operations for NPS Pharmaceuticals. Firuta holds an MBA from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia and a bachelor's degree from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Tim Lawton has been named Southeast regional sales manager for Stratford manufacturer Hubbell Water Heaters. Lawton spent 23 years at Reco USA, most recently as national sales manager. Before that, he spent 15 years with the Adamson Co.

Z-Medica LLC, a Wallingford developer and manufacturer of hemostatic devices, has named Joshua Hazelton, DO, FACS, FACOS to the position of chief medical officer. Hazelton is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he completed doctor of osteopathic medicine and general surgery residency. He currently is the attending trauma surgeon, director of trauma research and associate trauma medical director at Cooper University Health System.

Mark F. Boland has been named vice president, specialty at IAT Insurance Group in the firm's Cheshire office. Previously, Boland was president of Merit Specialty, an excess and surplus lines division of the Hanover Insurance Co. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from Pennsylvania State University.
