The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is making $1 million in federal funds available to eligible recipients to upgrade their area's water quality.

DEEP Commissioner-designee Katie Dykes announced Thursday her agency is accepting fiscal 2019 grant applications for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency funds from communities, local conservation groups and others for improving lakes, rivers and streams that are not meeting water quality standards.

Proposals must be received by April 3.
