A Boston-based government affairs and public relations firm said it's hired a former state housing official to lead its Hartford government affairs practice.

O'Neill and Associates, which handles crisis communications and government and federal public relations, on Wednesday announced the appointment of Daniel Arsenault as senior director of the Hartford practice.

Arsenault, who until February was legislative program manager and public information officer for the Connecticut Department of Housing, also previously worked as assistant to the chief of staff in former Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's office.

He also worked on the gubernatorial campaigns of Malloy and Ned Lamont.

The firm said Arsenault will leverage his state government experience to provide legislative, policy, communications and public affairs support to clients.

"Dan's extensive background in state government affairs and media relations in Connecticut make him an asset to our growing business in the state," CEO Thomas P. O'Neill III said in a statement Wednesday.

Arsenault, a Massachusetts native, earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and rhetoric and professional writing from the University of Hartford, where he serves as a board advisor for the Governor M. Jodi Rell Center for Public Service.

He is also a current board member for social service nonprofit Hands on Hartford.

O'Neill and Associates also has an office near the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C.
