Connecticut homebuilders pulled fewer municipal permits to erect new housing in January than they did a year earlier, fresh data shows.

There were 197 housing permits issued to start 2019 by 104 cities and towns surveyed by the U.S. Census Bureau, the state Department of Economic and Community Development said Thursday.

That's well below the 297 permits granted for single- and multi-family construction in Jan. 2018, data showed.

As recently reported, 3,812 housing permits were granted statewide in 2018, just nine more than in 2017, DECD said.
