Casino hires vendor to enhance data mining

Foxwoods Resort Casino has hired a Bedford, Mass., data-link vendor to help the casino mine its databases for more valuable information about gamblers' leisure pursuits to improve its marketing, special events and promotions.

DataDirect Technologies, a unit of Progress Software Corp., said Foxwoods' hospitality systems team is using its DataDirect Connect product to link business analytics data on UNIX- and Windows-based data sources. Terms were not disclosed.

With nearly 30 retail outlets, more than 20 restaurants, 25 conference rooms and two golf courses, Foxwoods wants to better understand how to serve the needs and desires of patrons by capturing data on the leisurely pursuits of its guests, the firms said.

Hotel stays, shows and entertainment, dining, visits to the spa and salon, etc., would be speedily gathered and analyzed to determine how or whether that data correlated with gaming behavior, they said.

Foxwoods also is considering collecting and analyzing ticketing data and slot-machine usage, DataDirect said.
