Hartford Business Journal Book of Lists

Welcome to the 2011 edition of the
Hartford Business Journal's Book of Lists.

News you can use

Our library of business information has grown since last year to serve our readers better.

We have collected the best of our lists published this year – and some that have not yet appeared in a weekly issue of Hartford Business Journal – for your convenience. The listings, phone numbers, contacts and statistics for companies in the Greater Hartford region, and in many cases, across the state, are a vital resource that can help you make business decisions every day.

Lists appearing for the first time this year are Connecticut's Tallest Buildings, Largest Patent Holders and Highest-Paid State Employees. In addition, we have significantly overhauled the Largest Employers in Connecticut list, adding the largest state agencies, municipalities and city school departments, as well as a number of private employers.

We hope you'll use the book as an all-purpose reference: to find new clients and contacts, as a way to get to know businesses in the area and to research local companies. We've done all the work of gathering and verifying data. Now you just have to put it to good use.

Many of our lists contain proprietary data supplied by private companies. We thank them for their trust in sharing the information, because, in the end, the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the lists is only a good as the information supplied by those who have chosen to participate.

We're always looking for new list ideas and new ways to make our existing lists better. To submit your company for inclusion in one of our lists, go to our Web site at www.hartfordbusiness.com and look for the link on the right side. To suggest a new list, email sreynolds@hartfordbusiness.com.

This year's collection of data is also available online. In some cases space has prevented us from running our entire list in print; but all the lists can be downloaded in their entirety as Excel spreadsheets. Go to www.hartfordbusiness.com and click on the link "The List" on the left-hand navigation bar. There, you will find all of our lists individually – as well as the Book of Lists in package form – available for purchase.

Several members of the HBJ staff deserve acknowledgement for all their work to make this publication a success, including editor Norm Bell, production director Lynn Mika and art director Christopher Wallace.

We hope you enjoy the book.

– Sarah E. Reynolds, Research director
