Dattco warms up with Thermo King deal

New Britain motor coach and school bus operator Dattco Inc. has expanded into selling and servicing air conditioners and chillers for truck and bus fleets.

Dattco says it bought two independent Thermo King dealerships in Windsor and in Brockton, Mass., and combined them to form Thermo King Northeast. Its turf covers Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Deal terms were not disclosed.

The transaction comes not long after Thermo King, a division of manufacturer Ingersoll-Rand, unveiled a line of roof-mounted air conditioners for school buses.

Thermo King also produces truck-mounted chillers for transporting chilled and frozen foods and beverages.

"Becoming a Thermo King dealer will allow us to increase our foothold that we have been gaining in the trucking industry for years,'' said Dattco President Don DeVivo.
