Edible Arrangements signs Jordanian franchise

Wallingford sculpted-fruit basket franchisor Edible Arrangements is deepening its international presence with the signing of a franchisee who plans six stores in the Middle Eastern nation of Jordan.

Founder Tariq Farid announced Thursday the signing of a master franchise agreement with Richmond, Va., businessman Raed Al-Mustafa. The first Edible Arrangement outlet will open in West Amman in 2011.

A Jordanian native who manages a hotel there and owns a temporary staffing agency in the U.S., Al-Mustafa plans to return home to oversee development of his franchise, officials said.

With the latest deal, Edible Arrangements' products will be available in 11 countries, in addition to the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Farid launched his first Edible Arrangements store in East Haven in 1999.
