Fla. to build Sikorsky's heavy-lift copter

A heavy-lift helicopter used by the U.S. Marine Corps will be assembled in a new operations center at Sikorsky Aircraft's northwestern Palm Beach County, Fla., plant, SunSentinel.com reports.

Sikorsky, based in Stratford, currently employs about 1,000 workers at the site, the Florida publication reports.

"We expect the program will grow, but we really cannot predict how much at this time," said Marianne Heffernan, spokeswoman for Sikorsky.

The latest version of the helicopter, the CH-53K, has been under design and development, and now moves to assembly and testing in Palm Beach County.
