Z-Medica Corp. of Wallingford says it signed a three-year deal with one of the nation's biggest healthcare-purchasing alliances to supply its line of clotting agents to some 2,500 hospitals and 78,000 healthcare sites that collectively spend $36 billion a year.
Financial terms of the deal with the group purchasing unit of the Premier healthcare alliance, based in Charlotte, N.C., weren't disclosed. The contract expires on Halloween 2014.
Z-Medica will supply its QuikClot brand of dressings to stop bleeding around the insertion and removal of leg catheters and tissue insertion sites for radiology scans and treatments.
Closely held Z-Medica is best known for supplying the U.S. military with wound dressings used on the battlefield and in field hospitals.
