U.S. funds $20M more to warm CT's needy

The federal government is releasing nearly $20 million to warm Connecticut's neediest this winter season, authorities say.

Connecticut's congressional delegation -- senators and congressmen -- jointly announced Thursday the commitment of another $19.9 million from the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to help low-income households with energy costs this winter.

The release of these funds -- combined with $59.7 million since October 2011 -- brings Connecticut's total allocation for the 2012 fiscal year to nearly $80 million, the delegation said.
