With barely a week left in the first quarter, Fairfield gunmaker Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. says it has gotten more than a million wholesale orders for new weapons, so many that it has stopped accepting orders, authorities say.
Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Fifer said Sturm Ruger's retail program offered from Jan. 1 to Feb. 29 was way more successful in drumming up orders both from retailers and independent firearms wholesalers.
But, Fifer said, despite its best efforts, the gunmaker is unable to keep up with demand, so it is suspending any more orders until it can catch up sometime in late May.
