A former Wallingford Lincoln-Mercury dealership will reopen May 1 as a used-car retailer, authorities say.
Apple Auto Sales will stock domestic and foreign brands on its lot at 856 N. Colony Road, former site of Merriam Motors, officials said Thursday.
Merriam shut its doors in 2008 after Ford Motor Co. chose to phase out the Mercury brand.
Apple's principals include veteran auto sales managers Jim Dickson and Hallan Iff, both formerly of New Country Auto, and Daniel Merriam and his father, Larry, who is an advisor to the new dealership.
Larry Merriam's father, Sam, founded Merriam Motors on the grounds of an apple orchard in 1955, authorities said.
