Australia's Westfield Group, fresh from a retrofit of two of its shopping malls to run on solar power, has measuring tape in hand to size up whether its two Connecticut malls and 53 others in the U.S. can be converted, authorities say.
The real estate investment trust that owns Westfield Meriden and Westfield Trumball malls hired Martifer Solar USA Inc. to design and install rooftop photovoltaic systems and solar carports at its two southern California malls, Westfield Topanga and Westfield Fashion Square.
Martifer said federal grants enabled Westfield to offset 30 percent of the solar-conversion cost.
