NRA gets $1.25M from Ruger's record gun sales

Fairfield gunmaker Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. says it contributed $1.25 million to the nation's leading gun lobby as a result of purported record one-year sales of one million firearms.

Ruger had pledged to share a part of the proceeds from its year-long "1.2 Million Gun Challenge to Benefit the (National Rifle Association)" campaign.

In the final quarter of the campaign ended March 31, the gunmaker said it sold 382,500 weapons.

"We believe that Ruger is the first firearms manufacturer to build and ship more than one million firearms in one year,'' Ruger CEO Mike Fifer said in a statement Thursday. "We achieved this milestone because of the strong support of our loyal consumers."

McKinney joined the company in 2010 from IBM.
