Hartford spokesperson Comer taking new city role

Andrea Comer, who became Hartford's chief spokesperson just five months ago, is leaving to join the leadership of the city school system's Jumoke Academy.

Her last day is April 27, Mayor Pedro E. Segarra announced Friday. Her precise title and responsibilities at Jumoke, one of the city's charter schools, weren't specifed.

Comer, who was director of communications and new media, is a past member of the city's school board and a former director of community outreach for Achievment First.

Comer also was a member of Segarra's transition team in his first term.

Segarra did not indicate whether or when a search will begin for Comer's successor.

Comer took over Sarah Barr, who left last November after seven years as City Hall spokesperson to become external communications vice president for Waterbury's Webster Bank.
