Vernon apartments installs solar thermal system

Hillside Terrace Apartments in Vernon will unveil a solar thermal system expected to save the complex $10,000 in annual energy costs.

Using rebates from the Connecticut Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority, Hillside hired Simsbury installer C-TEC Solar to put in the 80-panel system across the complexes four buildings.

With the system, the complex expects to need 70 percent less energy to produce hot water, said Pat Keane, operations director for Hillside.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new system will be 10 a.m. May 10 at 130 Vernon Ave.
