Earth Day on Monday brought a lot of Connecticut businesses out and about this past week, launching programs and touting their environmental initiatives.
New Haven electric utility United Illuminating launched a tree planting event on Saturday in Bridgeport and New Haven. The plantings were part of the company's new Tree Renewal and Environmental Education grant program to restore urban forests and build public awareness about tree-utility conflicts. The company will hold another planting in Hamden on April 28, in honor of Arbor Day.
Cox Communication announced several initiatives as part of its environmental initiative Cox Conserves, including recyclable coffee pod brewers, a transition to a fuel-efficient fleet, and waste reduction.
Norwalk energy supplier Viridian Energy is joining the Arbor Day Mad River Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon on April 28 in Winsted. Throughout April, Viridian hosted beach sweeps, neighborhood clean-ups, regeneration projects and tree plantings.
