CT's Colt loses Army rifle bid to Remington

The Defense Department awarded a lucrative M4 carbine contract to Remington Arms Co. LLC of North Carolina, rather than West Hartford's Colt Defense, The Manchester Journal Inquirer reports.

Colt, which has traditionally made the carbines for the U.S. Army, has not responded to requests for comment; the contract was reported last week by the defense contractor publication Military Times, the JI said Thursday on its Web site.

According to the contract listing on the Defense Department website, the $83,924,089 deal includes 24,000 M4A1 carbines to be built at Remington's plant in Ilion, N.Y. Deliveries will be completed by April 2017.
