Essex firm gets $8M Army motor-rebuild pact

Bell Power Systems in Essex got a four-year, $8 million Army contract to rebuild diesel engines for which it expects to do some hiring, authorities say.

Congressman Joe Courtney is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday to announce that Bell Power's Army pact is expected to last until March 2017.

Courtney will also highlight Bell Power's ongoing effort to hire veterans to keep up with its increased workload.

According to Bell Power General Manager Mike McNeil, this work will employ four to five people, plus at least one new employee at its facility at 34 Plains Road.
