Connecticut's environmental agency and outdoor retailer Cabela's, with an East Hartford store, are partnering again to co-sponsor a two-month contest in which anglers in the state and national compete for up to $2 million in prize money and other gifts.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced Wednesday that it is again joining Cabela's and its supporting sponsors for the "Wanna Go Fishing for Millions?" national contest.
The contest is held in states that have Cabela's retail stores and awards prizes to anglers who catch specially tagged fish and enter the tag number at the Cabela's website.
In Connecticut, DEEP has tagged 40 fish (largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, and trout) in six water bodies. To keep things fair, Cabela's will announce the list of lakes on its website this Saturday.
Product prizes include fishing gear and other outdoor equipment from Cabela's. The contest runs through July 8.
To win, anglers must be licensed and registered before fishing. Registration is available at Cabela's website: www.cabelas.com/fishformillions. Anglers can also register at Cabela's East Hartford store.
More than 2,000 Connecticut fishermen participated in last year's contest, vying for 33 tagged There were 13 winners, the biggest of which was a $10,000 Cabela's shopping spree.
