CT's Kaman plants composites flag in India

Bloomfield aero- and industrial-parts manufacturer-distributor Kaman Corp. signed a deal with one of India's leading composites makers to plant its composites-production footprint in India.

Kaman Aerospace Group Inc. and Kineco Private Ltd. agree to joint venture making advanced composite structures for aerospace, automotive, medical and other industries. Financial terms weren't revealed.

Kineco Kaman Composites-India will initially incorporate Kineco's existing production plant with some 150 workers in Goa, India.

Both companies share expertise in molding glass, carbon and Aramid fibers with polyester, epoxy and other synthetic resins into such varied products as helicopter cockpits, aircraft fuselages, auto bodies and other components.

Kaman Aerospace President Gregory L. Steiner said the venture is another rung in Kaman's "strategy for our composites business.''

India also is on the expansion radar of Hartford industrial conglomerate United Technologies Corp. for production of its jet engines, helicopters, elevators and heating-cooling equipment

Kaman is among UTC's key suppliers of aerospace components.
