West Hartford's Harris named CT Dem. Party director.

Former State Sen. and West Hartford Mayor Jonathan A. Harris has been named executive director of the Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee.

The West Hartford resident, who most recently served as deputy treasurer for the state, has been hand-picked to lead the Connecticut Democratic Party during the 2012 election year.

Harris served six years in the Connecticut Senate representing the fifth district of Bloomfield, Burlington, Farmington and West Hartford. During his time in the Senate, he served as co-chair of the Human Services Committee and later as co-chair of the Committee on Public Health.

Prior to serving in the senate, Harris served as mayor of West Hartford from 2001 to 2004. He holds a bachelor's degree in politics and Russian studies from Brandeis University and a juris doctorate from the New York University School of Law.
