CT picks 5 tech startups to share $125K

Connecticut's technology-investment arm has chosen five tech startups to collect $25,000 apiece to spur development of their innovations toward commercialization.

Connecticut Innovations Inc. announced Thursday the five participants in its fall TechStart Accelerator Program.

Launched last January, TechStart allows startups to pursue the viability of a technology concept or business and determine whether additional funding might be obtained to support their new ventures.

The fall 2012 session begins mid-September in New Haven. The first TechStart Accelerator Program ran in spring of 2012 and involved nine participating entrepreneurial teams.

The five winners from a pool of 34 applicants are:

• Exerscript dPrevention (New Haven) – will offer an innovative Web-based platform that provides diabetes support, guidance and training.

• FaceChecks (Bridgeport) – will provide facial recognition software and a mobile application for police departments, private security companies and online banking and brokerage businesses.

• goBlue (New Haven) – will combine neuroscience technology with mindfulness training to help people achieve high performance in life, sports and work.

• Innermost Labs (Waltham, Mass.; moving to Connecticut) – will provide mobile technology for conferences and other events, with an emphasis on building useful, long-term connections between conference attendees.

• Lasso (Shelton) – will provide a software product that allows teams to effortlessly share information and organize their work and thoughts to get more done.
