Norwalk-based hotels recognized for efficiency efforts

The U.S. Department of Energy recognized HEI Hotels & Resorts for its continued success as a participant in the Better Buildings Challenge.

The Norwalk-based hotel company was highlighted at the Marriott La Jolla in California for its efforts as a member of the federal project aimed at reducing energy consumption by 20 percent by 2020.

Since 2008, HEI Hotels & Resorts has reduced energy usage by 9 percent thanks to innovations such as the Energy Looking Glass, HEI's own monitoring dashboard, and Energy SetPoint, which defines optimum settings for key systems.

Other energy saving efforts the hotel has initiated include advancing sensors to determine unoccupied areas that may need less light or heat.
