Israel cell manufacturer firm opening Cromwell location

Biological Industries, an Israeli developer and manufacturer of cell culture media, molecular biology tools, human cytogenetics media, and custom media manufacturing services, will be opening offices in Cromwell. Biological Industries USA Inc. will market and distribute its products in the United States.

The Cromwell office will focus on establishing cell culture training programs and expanding collaborations within the stem cell and conventional cell culture fields. Its 3,500-sq. ft. facility will have five employees. The company plans to add five within the next year and will expand space if necessary.

Moshe Kapelnikov, newly appointed BI-USA CEO, said, "We were drawn to Connecticut and Middlesex County, in particular, for a variety of reasons, including the state's thriving research centers, such as UConn, Yale, and The Jackson Laboratory. Another major factor is our relationships with CURE (Connecticut's Bioscience Innovation Network) and Rainbow Scientific in Windsor."

Rainbow Scientific used to distribute the firm's products in the U.S. Biological Industries USA is partially owned by PEM BioGroup LLC of Windsor.

"This expansion is part of Biological Industries' planned growth strategy and provides geographic support for scientists in the United States region," said CEO Alon Ariel in an announcement. "Previously, [we have] partnered with strategic distributors within the U.S. in order to market our technology. Not only will our product portfolio be easily and directly available to US researchers, but they will now have direct access to our scientists and internal technical expertise as well."
