Arch Insurance has tapped Baltimore-based Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. to complete work on the unfinished Dunkin' Donuts Park, according to Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin and a published report.

Arch, the company guaranteeing completion of the stadium, has said work could resume next week, according to a report in the Hartford Courant. The Yard Goats, who played their entire season on the road, hope to resume play in Hartford by April 13, 2017. Patrick Nails, a senior vice president with Arch, could not be reached for comment.

Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin issued a statement late Wednesday welcoming the new addition to the project, since Whiting-Turner has extensive construction experience, including the building of sports facilities and stadiums. The company's work includes the Bryn Mawr turf field and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - East Campus Athletic Village.

"I appreciate the Arch's commitment to moving this project forward quickly, and we look forward to working closely with Whiting-Turner Contracting Co., with the Yard Goats, and with the Eastern League in the months ahead," Bronin said.

The original contractor, Centerplan Construction Co., was responsible for leading construction at the ballpark in time for the 2016 baseball season, but delays and other issues forced the Yard Goats to play the entire season on the road. Since the season ended, an architect's report has detailed a wide variety of structural defects and deficiencies at the stadium.

The ballpark is projected to cost more than $71 million.
Centerplan has sued the city of Hartford as well as the team and its owner.

Whiting-Turner could not be reached for comment.
