The Cromwell Kmart is closing this spring, along with previously announced Sears stores in Enfield and West Hartford.
Sears Holdings Corp. will close a total of 109 Kmart and 41 Sears stores "to stem losses," the corporation announced Thursday in a new round of closures.
The Cromwell Kmart, located at 45 Shunpike Road, will close in mid-March. The company previously announced it will close Sears stores in Enfield and West Hartford.
The remaining corporation will evolve from a store-based business model to a membership-focused model, said Edward S. Lampert, chairman & CEO of Sears Holdings.
"We are taking strong, decisive actions today to stabilize the company and improve our financial flexibility in what remains a challenging retail environment," Lampert said. "We are committed to improving short-term operating performance in order to achieve our long-term transformation."
Liquidation sales will begin as early as Jan. 6 at all closing stores.
