Connecticut's income-tax collector is suspending processing of electronic income-tax returns generated by three tax preparers – one of them in East Hartford.

State Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Commissioner Kevin Sullivan said Thursday his agency has detected a high volume of "questionable returns'' coming from the three preparers in East Harford, Ansonia and New Haven.

Sullivan did not say what about their clients' filed state income-tax returns prompted the agency's concern.

He identified the trio as:

  • Liberty Tax Service, 1003 East Main St., East Hartford;
  • Perfect Preparer, LLC, 58 Main St., Ansonia; and
  • Perfect Preparer, LLC, 206 Dixwell Ave., Suite 2, New Haven.

None could be immediately reached Thursday for comment.

Free assistance in completing Connecticut tax returns is available from the DRS by calling 860-297-5962 or in person at any of the regional walk-in centers in Bridgeport, Hartford, Norwich and Waterbury.
