Farmington-based Otis Elevator said 279 of its escalators and moving walkways will be used in a new satellite terminal to be built as part of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport expansion in Shanghai.

The company, a division of Farmington-based United Technologies Corp., said its Asian unit, Otis Elevator (China) Co., will supply the equipment for the facility, which is expected to be the world's largest satellite terminal at the airport, a major aviation hub for China and Asia. When completed in 2019, the satellite terminal will boost Pudong Airport's handling capacity to 80 million passengers annually, up from 60 million at the end of 2015.

Otis has formed a "dedicated task force of experts" from engineering, field operations and service to work on this critical project, said Luis Molina, president, Otis China Limited.
