Middletown bank launches tuition-free small biz academy

Liberty Bank is launching a tuition-free small business academy in Middletown to jump-start creation and growth of new small businesses.

Starting May 2, the Academy for Small Business will offer an eight-class curriculum, covering topics such as financial management, record-keeping, and risk management. The program will run through May 25 at Wesleyan University's Green Street Art Center.

Entrepreneurs must be in business for one to three years to attend the program and do not have to be Liberty Bank customers. Up to 20 business owners can participate on a first come, first served basis.

After successfully completing at least six classes, participating business owners will be eligible for a $5,000 line of credit from Liberty Bank, with a potential matching line of credit from the Community Economic Development Fund.
